The situation
- Great variety of parts
- end-plates
- angle
- base plates
- stiffner
- etc…
- Many low volume parts
- Each family of parts has many
configurations possible
- High-tolerances on sub-components
specifications

Many low volume parts
For one family, hundreds of different situations are possible:

More over, for each part, there could be local deformation or errors on sub-assemblies:

Solution
Components:
- 6-Axis robot
- 3D laser scanner
- Tool for welding
- Software suite for:
- Creating parametric families
- Robot path planning
- Automated sequence making
- Point of cloud analysis

1. Load Part
The part is loaded roughly at the appropriate location.

2. Set Parameters
Parametric information is entered:
- By the operator through a prompt screen
- Automatically from an encoded file
(Text file, Access, Excel, etc.)

3. Part scanning
Based on parametric information entered, with NO programmation, the robot knows where to scan.

4. Part analysis

In real-time, the part is analysed based on its 3D features.
Automatically, key features and datums are found.
Part inspection can also occur at the same time.

5. Path generation
The robot path is updated. The path generation will make sure there will be no potential collisions.

6. Robotized welding

Based on the path determined automatically by the system, the robot starts to weld the two parts together.
